Spring, a Hibachi Grill, and One Piece Swim Suits
If I’m being honest here (and I am), I’ve been ready for
summer since last summer ended. It’s a scientific fact, apparently, that people
are generally happier in the summertime. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the
seasons to some extent, but I am pumped
for this spring/summer season. Literally overnight, the grass grew back greener
than I’ve ever seen it.
The
reason I’ve been so stuck on summer these past few weeks is because I’ve been
preparing for mine! I forget if I’ve mentioned it yet, but I’m going to be on
an LCU camp team this summer! The people on my team are: Aly McDonald, Luke
Nash, and Rodney Gordley. Our team will also be leading worship at the camps we
visit. (And there will be approximately eight of them.) Starting at the
beginning of June and ending after the first week in August, we’ll be visiting
Bond Christian Service Camp, Mississippi Valley Christian Camp, Rock River
Christian Camp, Camp Illiana, Prairie States Camp, Lake Region Christian
Assembly (two weeks), and Oil Belt Christian Service Camp (my home camp!). The
one week of vacation I have will be spent at two of the volleyball camps at
LCU!
To
say I’ve got a busy summer ahead of me is an understatement. Last weekend, Mom
and Hallie drove up to LCU to visit Kiersten and me (that’s correct grammar, I
swear), and to go shopping with me to get a few things for this summer. You
know, the things that a typical modern teenage girl doesn’t usually get for
summer: shorts with a four inch inseam, a one piece swim suit, a fanny pack,
etc. When they arrived here, I made them watch about a baseball game and a
half, which they enjoyed, despite not knowing many (or any) of the players
personally. I love watching them play just as much as I enjoy listening to
their hilarious walk-up songs. We’re talking “Our Song” by Taylor Swift, the
“Drake and Josh” theme song, “Brick House” by the Commodores, and more.
We
finally left for Springfield, where we ate at a Hibachi Grill with Kiersten and
Dustin (it was our third choice, but trying to eat at 6:00 on a Saturday night
with five people is a nightmare). Then we shopped, hot tubbed, and went to
sleep. Sunday rolls around and I attempt to lead Mom to First Christian Church
of Clinton, where I volunteer on the worship team some Sundays. I lost her
somewhere in town, but I guess she made it somehow. It was probably her
“mother-daughter tracking device”. It’s real. I can hear her voice from a mile
away and track her down as well.
After
eating lunch at Monical’s, almost running out of gas (that was me), and
figuring out that Hallie was wearing my jeans, Mom and Hallie were on their way
back to Albion.
I don't want to bore you with squishing two weeks of life into one blog post, but here's a picture of Papa Steve spontaneously teaching Grant Kurka and I about Philippians in the Warehouse.

My bad! I have misspelled Philippians. Frank Dicken would be ashamed of me.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of your grammar was great, your Grammar would be so proud of you. I also love summer and CAMP!

ReplyDeleteThanks Gwen! A lot of my grammar/spelling craziness comes from having a teacher for a mother :)
