Brown County, Indiana and #happilyeveratliff
Mother/Daughter Mini-Vacation
I had actually never heard of Brown County, Indiana until I found myself going there last Tuesday with my Mom. Hallie was supposed to go with us (and possibly Dad), but they ended up having to play softball in the sectional tournament on Wednesday. Nevertheless, Mom and I made it to Brown County with only one discrepancy due to an interstate that we needed to take to get to our desired location but didn't exist according to the GPS on our phones. Awkward.
We made it to Nashville, IN around 6-7pm, and ate supper at some place that had a disco ball and a type of vegetable that was a hybrid between broccoli and asparagus. Bro-gus or asproccoli. We then walked around the town to see all the closed-up shops (they all close at 5) then headed to our cabin.
Let's talk about our cabin. For me, it had all the basics: a bar of soap, a place to sleep, and wifi. Typical Mom, brought all of her snacks, drinks, and other food that could have fed our entire family for a few weeks. (Slight exaggeration.) Another vacation home staple was the hot tub. Looking back, we only used it that first night, and that was the only reason why I chose this home over another nicer one.
On Wednesday (which was Mom's birthday!), we drove up to Beef n' Boards in Indianapolis to watch Beauty and the Beast which was AWESOME. I was fangirling so hard. Mom is just lucky that I didn't dress up like Belle like little girls did. Due to the fact that Hallie was no longer with us to use up her ticket, I invited one of my friends who used to go to LCU, David Spooner (Turtle), to come and watch the show with us. We stopped at a mall somewhere and I bought (aka allowed Mom buy) some "dad shoes" that are so comfy, I'm wearing them as I write this blog post, and a cloth-ish backpack for camp. By the time we got back, Mom was pooped (I slept while she drove, so I was fine), so we chilled for the rest of the evening and drank Big Red from wine glasses.
Thursday. I had been wanting to go hiking this entire vacation, so we finally went our last full day. As we drove into Brown County State Park, there was a sign that, today, there was a low change of forest fires. I assume that's because it was going to RAIN. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. I made Mom take a whole bunch of pictures of me. I bet you're so excited and have been wondering all this time where my pictures have been. Well I'd hate to disappoint. Here it is in photo form: Mom and I's hiking adventure.
I worked very hard in training Mom in the art of "adventure picture taking by Pinterest standards". |
To quote Belle from the play we saw on Wednesday, "I want to adventure in the great wide Somewhere," |
There was a squirrel. |
I don't know if anyone actually cares about this or wanted to know, but my hat is from Pacsun, backpack- Aeropostale, shirt- made at home, shorts- kohls. |
Jeremiah & Caitlin Ratliff!
On Friday, Mom and I got up early and drove 2.5 hours home; I got my clothes for the Ratliff wedding, and then I drove 3 hours to Springfield to get ready at my sister's house, where Abbie, Hannah, and Aly were waiting for me (they were waiting for 30 minutes, whoops). It was fine though; when I got there, they were happily watching a western film. Aly drove us to the wedding. All of us were invited because Jeremiah wanted to do something nice for us since our week of camp training (see previous blog post) went so well.
The wedding was so beautiful and fun. If LCU students know anything, we know how to do weddings and make them fun. (We know a lot more than that, but just go with me here.) Mike Nichols told Jeremiah and Caitlin's story, which I loved. The reception was also super fun, a dinner and dancing!! I even kept my shoes on the whole time.
To me, I felt like the night ended too soon after the reception. Fortunately for me, so did a few of the LCU crew! We drove back to Lincoln and went to Abbie's house. We watched Miss Congeniality (I really do want world peace.), played the piano a bit, messed around with a giant red bean bag chair, and told a lot of very interesting stories! (If you know, you know.)
That's all for today's blog post! A week from now, all the camp teams will be heading out for our first week of camp! I am beyond excited. You know what to do.
