Week 2/8: Mississippi Valley Christian Service Camp!

Corn, Napkins, & Identity in Christ

It seems that we always like to begin our week with a van mishap. We successfully packed up Harriet and made it to McDonalds......where I spilled my sweet tea all over my seat. So that was fun. I bet Lynn Laughlin just loved my clumsy self right then and there.

We met Rodney and other camp teams from Ozark Christian College, Saint Louis Christian College, and Central Christian College of the Bible at MVCSC. One of the highlights for the campers was the lake that they had on campus. They had a big platform that they could zip-line off of, jump off of, or they also had a blob where you could kind of catapult people off of; it was super fun! Aly went super high and actually did a flip when she was "blobbed" by a guy on the Saint Louis camp team per campers request.

A sign language interpreter that interpreted some of the sessions and worship services taught us some sign language one morning. We learned words like "dance party", "player", and of course "Bible", etc.

Before we went to any meals, we would have some contest between all the teams. One of the contests was a celebrity impersonation, and my team decided to have me sing Best of Both Worlds from Hannah Montana. I didn't know this until the end of last week, but I apparently sound a little like Miley Cyrus when I talk or sing. That was something I'd never heard before, so I thought it was really interesting. I've thought about purchasing a Hannah Montana wig from Amazon, but I probably shouldn't. (It would be okay if Mom decided to though. Shameless plug.)

A camp team member named Kyle from CCCB introduced to us a game that is played during mealtimes at camp. First, you share at someone across the room, table, etc. When they finally stare back at you, obnoxiously shove an entire napkin in your mouth for no apparent reason at all. This quickly became a highlight of my week. Some of us would carry napkins with us and shove napkins in our mouth while another team presented their college (*cough* Luke *cough*). If you're going to see me at future weeks, beware...

Faculty hunt has been one of my favorite parts of the past two camps so far. This week, I hid in a shelter that had all the life jackets and the board that you carry people on in it. It was super dark, and I hid myself pretty well. Probably four groups of kids came in looking around, poking at the life jackets. "It's scary in here." "I don't think anyone is hiding in here." Finally, a group of campers used a flashlight in the little shed (which was 100% against the rules). Someone pointed out that they saw an arm, so I jumped out and scared the group of girls that had found me. Their ten second long screams were worth the shame of being found (plus they cheated...but I'm not salty).

The last night, most of the camp team members met up to go star tripping and frog gigging. (I was not part of the frog gigging, but I did eat some of the frog legs that they cooked over the campfire. It was an experience ha!). The college kids serving on camp teams were all so awesome, outgoing, and really great with the campers. It was also super cool to hang out with them the last night.

The theme of the week was Finding Our Identity in Christ, so we looked at a lot of characteristics of God and how they apply to us as well. Thursday night, the campers' parents were allowed to come and watch skits we had prepared throughout the week. Julia and I's all girl group (Team Orange), lip synced a rap to Identity by Lecrae. We got super into it, so it was really fun. Julia (the other leader besides me from Ozark) braided most of the girls' hair into cornrows, which added a special "element" to our performance. It was super fun to act silly with our family group, but also portray a positive message.

It was such a blessing to be involved with MVCSC this week!
This week's scholarship winners: Evie and Keith!

Yours Truly,

Sadie
